TESTOPEL® Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) in Tucson, Arizona

TESTOPEL® is the only FDA-approved testosterone pellet available to help restore testosterone levels in men with Low T

What is TESTOPEL®?

TESTOPEL® is the only FDA-approved testosterone pellet available to help restore testosterone levels in men with Low T. The treatment helps restore testosterone levels in men with Low T for 3 to 4 months, sometimes up to 6 months. TESTOPEL® helps to improve mood, sexual function, muscle mass and bone strength without the inconvenience and mess of testosterone gel, or the requirement of daily injections. The testosterone is administered in a quick, in-office procedure, and most men are able to resume regular activity the same day. The low-pain, low-impact procedure is so simple and effective that nine out of 10 men needing testosterone therapy report that they prefer TESTOPEL® over other treatment methods.

What Men Can Potentially Benefit from Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)?

TESTOPEL® may be the right fit for men with Low T who:

  • Are looking for a long-acting testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for the treatment of their Low T
  • Would like a product with dosing every 3 to 4 months
  • Are interested in an in-office procedure
  • Are looking for a long-acting TRT that does not transfer to others

Is TESTOPEL® Covered by Commercial Insurance Plans?

The majority of commercial insurance plans cover TESTOPEL®. Our office in Tucson experienced with prescribing TESTOPEL® can work with you to explore your benefit coverage.

It is important to know that insurance coverage and reimbursement for TESTOPEL® are not guaranteed. Coverage and reimbursement depends on an individual patient’s insurance plan. We recommend that you contact the insurance provider to verify TESTOPEL® coverage and reimbursement.

How Does the TESTOPEL Testosterone Replacement Therapy Work?

TESTOPEL® is an in-office procedure completed in approximately 15 minutes. During the treatment at our Tucson office, a provider implants TESTOPEL® pellets just under the skin in the hip area or another fatty area. The pellets are smaller than the width of a dime.

Why Dr. Burrows Recommends Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Testosterone replacement has become medically accepted and recommended for men who are symptomatic from documented low testosterone levels. For men with decreased libido, drop in energy, loss of muscle mass difficulty making exercise gains, and losing weight, testosterone is recommended for better health and return of function. Testosterone replacement can be administered by high-quality products including daily skin creams, weekly muscle shots (IM), and under-the-skin (Sub Q) 3 times a year dosing. There are other forms of testosterone that are less popular such as nasal and gum line.

As an expert and longtime prescriber of testosterone, I encourage you to consider sub-cutaneous testosterone. I have found that many men once they learn of all ways to get testosterone back would prefer the Sub-Q route of testosterone to avoid daily gels and risk of transfer to women and kids and avoid weekly muscle shots. However, insurance rarely covers this option as the cost is incurred up-front for 4 months at time and even though it all averages to the same- insurance is not your advocate for your best option.

Will Your Insurance Cover Testosterone Pellets?

I encourage you to check your insurance policy for your out-of-pocket expense and to find out what type of testosterone and bureaucratic hurdles you will need to overcome several times a year, every year. Especially, if you would prefer a 3-4 time a year option with Sub-Q testosterone and discover like the majority of my patients that your out-of-pocket expense despite going with the product your insurance choses for you is significant.

Not included but will be run through your insurance is the routine regular lab testing to make sure you have the correct dose and schedule return for new implants. Lab testing typically is 3 months after the first time and then twice a year while on any type of testosterone. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Peter Burrows, board-certified urologist to discuss if you are a candidate for testosterone pellets.
